Longtime publishing professional Lawrence Dixon "L.D." Clepper Jr. died on August 15 in Silang, Philippines. He was 85.

Clepper spent 44 years in publishing. He first worked as a reporter and later as an editor for the Jennings Daily News in Jennings, La. He transitioned to book publishing, first working for Macmillan Publishing as a southern regional sales representative, later becoming a domestic marketing manager, and eventually being named director of marketing at Collier Macmillan International.

He later was International sales and marketing director at Harper & Row, Houghton Mifflin Company, and, finally, Oxford University Press. Upon his early retirement, he opened the consulting firm Publishers Marketing and Research Associates.

Clepper was also the author of Louisiana’s Grand Old Party: A History of Republicans in the Bayou State, 1900-1952, published in 2019 by Claitor’s Publishing Division.

He relocated in the Philippines in 2022. He is survived by his three nephews and their respective families, along with his longtime partner, Virgil Medina of Silang, Cavite, Philippines.
