Hilary Mantel has won the 2012 Man Booker prize for Bring Up the Bodies. The author, who is published in the U.S. by Macmillan, is now only the third writer in the prize's history (after J.M. Coetzee and Peter Carey) to win the award twice. Mantel's 2009 book Wolf Hall also won the prize, putting her in the unique position of being the first to win the award for a sequel (Bring Up the Bodies continues the story begun in Wolf Hall), as well as the first author to win the award twice in such a short period of time.
In its announcement about Mantel's victory, the Man Booker committee called her series "one of the greatest achievements of modern literature." A third book in the series is also planned.
