The finalists for the 35th annual Los Angeles Times Book Prizes were announced March 4. Fifty nominees in 10 categories are up for the awards, recognizing titles published in 2014, and the winners will be revealed on April 18 at USC's Bovard Auditorium.

In addition,T.C. Boyle will receive the 2014 Robert Kirsch Award for lifetime achievement, and Reading Rainbow's LeVar Burton will be honored with the Innovator’s Award.

Books in contention include Adam Begley's Updike (HarperCollins); Héctor Tobar's Deep Down Dark (FSG); Helen Oyeyemi's Boy, Snow, Bird (Riverhead); and Eimear McBride's A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing (Coffee House Press).
