Nominations for Publishers Weekly’s third annual Star Watch program will be accepted until June 15. The program, in partnership with Frankfurter Buchmesse, celebrates up-and-coming members of the U.S. publishing community and recognizes them on a global stage.
The program identifies “stars” of American publishing from all areas of the industry. Five top honorees will be selected from a long list, with a single “Superstar” announced in September at the PW Star Watch event in New York. The winner will be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to the Frankfurt Book Fair this fall.
All selected stars will be featured in Publishers Weekly in a September issue and celebrated at events in New York this fall and during the Frankfurt Book Fair in October. Last year’s superstar was Andrew Harwell, senior editor, HarperCollins Children’s Books; the winner of the 2015 trip to Frankfurt was Helen Yentus, art director at Riverhead Books.
For the Frankfurter Buchmesse, partnering with Publishers Weekly on PW Star Watch is a crucial way of supporting the future of global publishing. By highlighting up-and-coming members of the U.S. publishing community and bringing them to the book fair in the fall to meet their peers around the world, to provide speaking opportunities to highlight their work, and to network with international publishing executives from whom they may receive mentorship, the Frankfurter Buchmesse and Publishers Weekly are strengthening the industry and providing connections for rich collaboration across borders.
