Visitors to booth 926 will have a chance to welcome first-time exhibitor Little Grasshopper Books and to peruse the inaugural titles of this children’s imprint from West Side Publishing. The line, which pairs print books with apps, encompasses a spectrum of fiction and nonfiction titles for children up to the age of six, including boxed sets, board books, and treasuries.
Among the debut releases, due in August, is Read Hear and Play, a boxed set of six titles, each with six free interactive apps offering games, narration, and sound effects aimed at reinforcing word recognition, reading skills, and comprehension. Little Grasshopper’s launch titles, all written in-house, also include I Can Find It! Fun with 3 Classic Stories; Early Learning Baby Animals; and 12-Book Boxed Set Mother Goose.
Little Grasshopper is moving quickly out of the gate, with a projected total of more than 150 titles due in 2020. “We’re off to an aggressive start,” says creative director Jim Harbison. “The results of our extensive data research and focus group testing has been extremely positive, so we’re confident we are on the right track.”
The timing of the imprint’s announcement is similarly strategic, suggests West Side Publishing owner Louis Weber, who says, “We are thrilled to debut our inaugural titles at BookExpo this year. Bringing our first books to such an important show for the bookselling community is a real honor.”
