Henry Holt has signed up journalist and editor at large for Time magazine Catherine Mayer's new biography of Prince Charles, based on more than a year of research, including access to Charles himself. Born to Be King: Prince Charles on Planet Windsor will be under embargo until it is released in February 2015.
Holt's President and publisher Stephen Rubin bought U.S. rights from Ed Victor of Ed Victor Ltd. The book, to be edited by John Sterling, will be simultaneously published by WH Allen (an imprint of Ebury Publishing at Penguin Random House) in the U.K., Canada, India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Holt's edition will be "somewhat shorter" than the British edition, according to the publisher, and will feature different jacket art.
Based on multiple interviews with his friends, including actress Emma Thompson, and palace insiders, Mayer’s biography "reveals Prince Charles in all his complexity," according to Holt. It will offer "fresh and fascinating insights into the first marriage that did so much to define him," while also providing an "assessment of his relationship" with his current wife, Camilla.
