SMP Takes Sakugawa’s ‘Prettier’
At St. Martin’s Press, B.J. Berti and Courtney Littler nabbed world English rights to comic book artist Yumi Sakugawa’s Prettier Smarter Better. Laurie Abkemeier, at DeFiore and Company, brokered the deal in an auction, with SMP beating out three other bidders. Sakugawa, whose last three books were published by Adams Media—There Is No Right Way to Meditate (2015), One with the Universe (2014), and I Think I Am in Friend-Love with You (2013)—will deliver life/home improvement advice through a collection of illustrations in Prettier Smarter Better. The book, Abkemeier said, was inspired by the author’s popular series of illustrated guides that appear on the website, wonderhowto.com. Abkemeier added that the book is intended to offer readers “fun and artsy DIY projects that can brighten [their] living space” as well as “improve [their] home life.”

Gerard Gets ‘Harvested’ at Clarkson Potter
Food blogger Tieghan Gerard sold a cookbook called The Harvested Table to Amanda Englander at Clarkson Potter. Gerard, who oversees the blog at Half Baked Harvest, was represented by Stacey Glick at Dystel & Goderich; Glick sold world rights in a preempt. The book, CP said, will feature 150 recipes that are “fun, unique, and flexible.”

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly cited WonderHowTo.com as Yumi Sakugawa's website. It is not her site; she writes a regular column for the site called "The Secret Yumiverse."
