Random House has acquired the first book by Pope Francis written during his papacy. The Name of God Is Mercy: A Conversation with Andrea Tornielli will be published in January, 2016, in hardcover and e-book editions, in the U.S. and Canada. The title will also be released by RH in both Spanish and English.
Random House Audio will also publish its edition of The Name of God Is Mercy in January.
The book will focus on mercy, a subject of central importance to Pope Francis' teaching and testimony. It will also summarize other ideas—reconciliation, the closeness of God—at the heart of his papacy. Written in conversation with Vatican expert and Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli, The Name of God Is Mercy will be directed at the general public, as opposed to specifically Catholics.
Random House executive editor Will Murphy acquired North American, audio, and Spanish-language rights from Laura Casonato, rights and acquisitions manager at Italian publisher Piemme.
