A new investigative biography of Vice President Mike Pence, entitled The Shadow President: The Truth About Mike Pence, by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Michael D'Antonio and fellow journalist Peter Eisner, will be released on August 28 by St. Martin's Press, the imprint has announced. World publishing rights to the book were acquired by Thomas Dunne, with Stephen S. Power editing, directly from the authors. The book will be available simultaneously in hardcover, e-book, and audio formats.
The book is the latest in big-name political books from parent company Macmillan, which has released two other marquee politics titles this year: Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff (Henry Holt), and A Higher Loyalty by James Comey (Flatiron).
Billed as a "landmark biography," the book, SMP said, follows "the path Pence followed from Catholic Democrat to conservative evangelical Republican," arguing that, "once he locked in his views on the issues—anti-gay, pro-gun, anti-abortion, pro-big-business—he became laser-focused on his own pursuit of power," and eventually became "the most important and powerful Christian Right politician America has ever seen."
