On Demand Books, the company behind the Espresso Book Machine, continues to extend its reach. Late last month it installed its first machine in continental Europe at the American Book Center in Amsterdam. The machine is currently being tested and will be up and running and able to print books in multiple languages at the beginning of 2011.
“We’re excited to be able to fulfill our customers’ book wishes more quickly. We hope to facilitate self-publishing in any language supported by graphic designers, copy editors, and other word-craft professionals from our local community,” says ABC director Lynn Kaplanian-Buller.
Currently, 53 EBMs have been installed or are scheduled to be installed at bookstores and libraries worldwide, with new ones coming soon to Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse in La Cañada Flintridge, Calif., and McNally Jackson Bookstore in New York City. Through On Demand’s recent partnership with Xerox, which will market, sell or lease, and service book machines worldwide, the number of installations should accelerate in the coming year.
