Our annual collection of sales numbers for books sold in the last calendar year provides a clear picture of where the business of books is headed—e-books. Based on numbers for books shipped and billed in 2012 for adult hardcovers and trade and mass-market paperbacks, it is clear that digital sales eroded print, and truly delivered a body blow to the mass market segment. Thanks to E.L. James, the condition of trade paper looked better, but as our collection of e-book sales shows, publishers and authrs are racking up enormous commerce in the digital format everywhere. On the children's side, many popular series continue to fare very well, with the most popular also posting huge e-book numbers.
