Bookstore sales fell 7.8% in March, compared to the same month last year, dropping to $683 million, according to estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
For the first quarter of 2014, bookstore sales declined 9.5%, to $2.92 billion. The government revised its bookstore sale estimates for January and February, with the new figures showing sales off 12.2% in January, and 5.4% in February.
For the entire retail sector, sales in March rose 3.0% and were up 2.2% in the quarter.
