Next month Powell’s Books in Portland, Ore., and Avon Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, are test piloting Mutual Attractions, a romance program that will feature four books selected by an Avon author every other month.
The program will kick off with four selections from Julia Quinn (The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy): Tessa Dare’s Say Yes to the Marquess, Julie Anne Long’s The Perils of Pleasure, Loretta Chase’s Mr. Impossible, and Eva Ibbotson’s A Countess Below Stairs.
Powell’s will promote the books in-store and via social media.
“We have seen success with our independent retailers who have dedicated space to even a small, curated romance section,” said Mary Beth Thomas, HarperCollins v-p, deputy director of sales. “Powell’s is such a force in the independent market, so we are truly excited to see what they will be able to do with the 'Mutual Attractions' program.”
This article has been corrected. A previous version of this article incorrectly identified the title of Eva Ibbotson's book. It is A Countess Below Stairs.
