Six weeks after his death from complications caused by plasma cancer, a memorial service for former bookseller Dan Odegard will be held at Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1500 Franklin Avenue, S.E. in Minneapolis. The Saint Paul Pioneer Press reports that it will take place on May 14 at 3 p.m. Odegard died on March 31 in his home.
Odegard founded in 1978 with his ex-wife Michele Cromer-Poire, Odegard’s Books in St. Paul, which closed in 1992. He subsequently owned bookstores in Minneapolis and Edina, and served as director of trade publishing for a year at Hazelden. He also was a consultant with the other Twin Cities publishing entrepreneurs who comprised Book Architects for a number of years.
Contributions in Odegard’s memory may be made to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Rochester, Minn.
