Unit sales of print books increased 3% in the week ended May 24, 2015, compared to the similar week last year, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The adult and juvenile nonfiction categories had the best performances, with units up 8% and 9%, respectively. In adult, The Life Saving Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo had a big sales jump, with units up 66% compared to the previous week; the title was #1 in the category, selling more than 32,000 copies. The biggest debut in the week came from a YouTube personality published under Atria’s Keywords imprint: Joey Graceffa’s In Real Life sold more than 14,000 copies. Juvenile nonfiction benefitted from big second-week sales of National Geographic’s Kids Almanac, which sold more than 9,000 copies—roughly 4,000 more units than in its first week on sale. A second Johanna Bradford coloring book, Secret Garden, landed at #5 in its debut week, selling more than 6,000 copies. Sales in the juvenile fiction segment fell 4% in week 21, compared to the week ended May 25, 2014, despite a couple of new bestsellers. Maximum Ride Forever by James Patterson debuted at #3 on the list, with 12,500 copies sold, while the movie tie-in edition to John Green’s Paper Towns was fourth, with just over 12,000 copies sold. (The regular Paper Towns paperback was at #2 on the list.) Unit sales of adult fiction rose 0.8% in the week.
