Despite uncertainties, both the Book House in Maplewood, Mo., and Acorn Books in Dover, Del., will remain open. In the case of The Book House an Indiegogo campaign raised the needed $10,000 to pay down debt. And Acorn, which did close, found new digs in nearby Smyrna, Del. It will reopen there early next month.

Essence Festival in NOLA (July 3-5): Garden District Bookshop will be selling books at this year’s festival, featuring Alice Randall and Caroline Randall-Williams (Soul Food Love), Sarah Jakes (Colliding with Destiny), and children’s author and Essence columnist Patrik Henry Bass (Zero Degree Zombie Zone).

BAM Closing in Dupont Circle: The Books-A-Million in Washington, D.C., lost its lease and will close its doors on July 18.

Charlottesville’s Metaphysical Bookstore Closed: Unable to find a buyer for the 37-year-old bookstore, owner Kay Allison closed it late last month.

Moby Dickens in Taos Closing July 3: Two years after Jay and Carolyn Moore purchased it, they will close the 31-year-old bookstore. “The struggling economy and overwhelming influence of Amazon has left us with no choice but to take this step,” the store posted on Facebook.

Topeka’s Books and More Closing July 18: Used and rare bookstore owner Tammy Vagts says that her store can’t be profitable without adding adult-only titles, which she’s unwilling to do.

Acorn Books Finds New Digs: At the beginning of June the Dover, Del., bookstore announced that it would close until it could find a new space. Now it is preparing for a move north to Smyrna, where it will have a soft opening in early August.

New Location for Carrollwood, Fla., Bookstore: When its lease expired, the 31-year-old Bookswap moved to a more visible, significantly smaller space, about half the size of its previous store.

Lake Country Booksellers Celebrates Its 35th: The 900 sq. ft. White Bear Lake, Minn., bookstore is marking its coral anniversary this week. It opened on April Fool’s Day 1980.
