The American Booksellers Association reported that 14 independent stores opened between April and June, including Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney’s much-anticipated An Unlikely Store Bookstore & Café in Plainville, Mass. And new stores continue to open, including Books by the Beach in New Smyrna Beach, Fl., and a second location for Ye Olde Warwick Book Shoppe in Greenwood Lake, N.Y.

Bookstock Literary Festival in Woodstock, Vt.: Poets, storytellers, and authors, including former governor Jim Douglas will speak at the three-day festival, which opens Friday, July 24.

Page 158 Books Opens in Wake Forest, N.C.: Earlier this month Dave and Suzanne Lucey purchased the The Storyteller’s Book Store and reopened it under a new name.

Second Location for Ye Olde Warwick Bookshop : On August 1, Thomas G. Roberts and Joseph J. Justin, who have a three-year-old store in New York’s Hudson Valley are planning a soft opening for their second store in Greenwood Lake.

Corpus Christi’s Rainbow Books Closing: After 31 years, 80-year-old Barbara Flanigan is retiring. If she is unable to sell the store, she plans to close it on September 1.
