Big Screen, Small Screen

Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for Me Before You, based on the 2013 contemporary romantic novel by Jojo Moyes, on February 3. Fans shared the trailer widely, yielding more than three million views to date, and boosting print unit sales of that novel and its 2015 sequel, After You.

The trade paper edition of Me Before You is the #13 book in the country; print unit sales are up 441% over last week, to more than 14K. After You returns to our Hardcover Fiction list at #23 with a 72% increase over last week and its best sales since the holiday season.

In TV news, Stephen King’s 11/22/63 is picking up steam ahead of the February 15 debut on Hulu of the miniseries adaptation starring James Franco. It’s #7 on our Mass Market list with 10.6K print units sold in its second week, up 21% over release week.

Audrey Carlan’s Calendar Girl series has become a fixture on our iBooks romance charts. After self-publishing her books to some success, the author signed with the indie Waterhouse Press in August and began dominating the e-book list earlier this year. In mid-Janaury, Waterhouse teamed up with Ingram Publisher Services for print distribution, and this week—four months after publication—Calendar Girl, Vol. 1 debuts at #20 on our trade paperback list with 5,175 print units sold.

On Solid Footing

Mr. Splitfoot, Samantha Hunt’s novel of séances and chicanery, pubbed January 5 to modest sales of a few hundred copies a week. What a difference a month makes: buzz has been building, with postpublication coverage in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Miami Herald, Paste, Salon, and elsewhere. Most recently, Powell’s Indiespensable subscription club sold out of copies, and New York magazine’s Vulture named the book its inaugural pick for its Insiders Book Club. Result: Mr. Splitfoot debuts at #14 on our Hardcover Fiction list with 3,553 print units sold, no communing with the spirits necessary.
