Red Lodge Books Owner to Run New Co-op Bookstore: Writer Gary Robson, owner of Red Lodge Books & Teas in Red Lodge, Mont., has been hired to run a cooperative bookstore in downtown Billings, Mont. The co-op is also buying Red Lodge’s entire inventory. Robson will close his own store on June 6.
Midtown Reader to Open in Tallahassee: Sally Bradshaw, who served as senior advisor to former Gov. Jeb Bush, is looking to create a community gathering place that will stock political books, Florida titles, and children’s literature. She plans to open the bookstore in November.
New Era for Swarthmore Bookstore—and Downtown: The Swarthmore Campus and Community Store located near the Swarthmore, Pa., train station held its grand opening on May 1. The store replaces the basement bookstore that had been in the center of campus. The change in the name from Swarthmore College Bookstore reflects a change in the goals of the store, said bookstore director Paula Dean.
Binc Campaign to Sustain: Last year 49 contributors supported the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation’s inaugural Campaign to Sustain and pledged to become monthly sustaining donors. This month Binc wants to add another 50 sustaining donors to support programs that help with serious medical expenses, domestic violence, homelessness prevention, and funeral expenses for booksellers and their families.
Clermont’s Rabbit Hole Turns to Indiegogo: The Florida bookstore and coffee shop is looking for help with its expansion plans. It wants to move into a 1,500 sq. ft. space downtown from its current 500 sq. ft. store.
Mills College to Close Bookstore: After years of declining bookstore sales, the Oakland, Calif., college is closing its storefront bookstore at the end of the semester and moving textbook sales online through eCampus.
Kitabee Bookstore Closing May 28: The Lincoln, Neb., bookstore has begun liquidating its inventory of new and used books, along with office equipment.
