Phoenix Books Buys Misty Valley Books: The Vermont indie with locations in Essex, Burlington, and Rutland is extending its reach with the purchase of a 28-year-old bookstore in Chester. “It feels fitting to keep Misty Valley going and growing as part of our goal to preserve local independent bookstores and strengthen the communities hosting the stores,” said Michal DeSanto, who founded Phoenix Books with his wife Renee Reiner in 2007.
New Owners for The Bookloft in the Berkshires: After 42 years Erik and Ev Wilska are stepping back from new bookselling—they will continue to operate a rare bookstore in Shaker Mill in West Stockbridge, Mass. Pamela Pescosolido takes over the reins of The Bookloft today, and a party to say goodbye to the Wilskas is planned for May 28.
Grand Opening of Third Place Books in Seward Park: The Seattle-area bookseller is planning a day-long celebration of its newest location on May 21. In addition to selling new and used books, the store will have a a Raconteur restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a coffee bar and a full bar.
