New Store in West Duluth, Minn.: Bob and Angel Dobrow are opening Zenith Bookstore at the end of summer 2017. After purchasing the building, which formerly housed Wild West Liquors, late last week, the Dobrows have already begun renovations.
Feminist Bookstore to Return to Thunder Bay, Ontario: Following the death of owner Margaret Phillips, Northern Woman’s Bookstore in Canada was forced to close last year. Now the Space of Our Own Collective, which helped guide the bookstore, is looking for a new location, where it will be able to hold events and where women can hang out.
Mesilla, N.M., Bookstore Turns 50: After selling books at the New York World’s Fair Cheryll Blevins’s parents started the Mesilla Book Center in 1966. Now she and her husband, Paul, are celebrating the store’s first half century. The store is in historic building, which dates from the mid-nineteenth century.
Minimum Wage Forces California Bookstore to Close: Because of the upcoming wage minimum wage hike to $15, the Almost Perfect Bookstore in Roseville, Calif., is shutting the doors of its bricks-and-mortar bookstore. The 25 year-old bookstore will transition to online only.
