Main Point Books Opens in Wayne, Pa.: After it lost its lease, the three-and-a-half-year-old bookstore in Bryn Mawr, Pa., decided to move to a new nearby space that is 25% larger. Owner Cathy Fiebach is opening the doors to the new store today, just in time for this weekend’s Harry Potter party.
Calligraphy Store Expands with Books: Since moving to a larger 502 sq. ft. location in the same mall, By Hand, Ink on Hilton Head Island, S.C., a calligraphy art and gift store has become a bookstore, too. Owner Bobbi Hahn said that was inspired by a quote from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, “No one in their right mind would take up clerking in a bookstore for the salary, and no one in his right mind would want to run one — the margin of profit is too small.”
Page & Palette’s Wilson Runs for Mayor: Karin Wilson, third-generation owner of Page & Palette, Latte Da Coffee Shop and the Book Cellar Bar in Fairhope, Ala., is the latest bookseller to throw her hat into the mayoral ring. She is facing incumbent Tim Kant, who has been employed by the city for 30 years, in the August election.
