As it continues to integrate the former Perseus Books Group's distribution divisions into its own operations, the Ingram Content Group has announced that starting October 1 it will ship titles from those units to independent booksellers through the Ingram distribution network. Ingram bought the Perseus distribution group--which includes PGW, Consortium, Perseus Distribution, and Legato--this spring.
What the change means for indie booksellers, Ingram said, is that their orders will receive direct distribution discounts, and terms, and will be combined with Ingram Publisher Services and wholesale orders for free freight.
“We hope in some way through these improvements that we’ll help bookstores be even more successful,” Phil Ollila, chief content officer of Ingram, said in a statement.
The distribution change-up will enable booksellers country-wide to receive books directly from the closest Ingram distribution center geographically. Perseus Distribution's Jackson, Tenn. distribution campus will remain the inventory hub for Ingram's distribution brands, and is currently undergoing systems and infrastructural upgrades.
