Branches Books & Gifts Doubles in Size: The Oakhurst, Calif., bookstore moved to a new location, where it has doubled in size to 1,500 sq. ft. With the added space, Branches was able to increase its nonfiction, as well as sidelines, which now include bras and socks.
Bend. Ore., Used Bookstore for Sale: Linda McGeary, age 68, put 13-year-old Bookmark on the market so that she can retire. She is looking forward to writing her fourth science fiction novel and to traveling with her husband, Duncan, who owns Pegasus Books, also in Bend.
Island Bound Books for Sale: After 21 years, Cindy Lasser put her Block Island bookstore up for sale for $82,00. If she doesn’t find a taker for the 900 sq. ft. store, she will close it when her lease runs out at the end of January.
SUV Crashes into University of Pittsburgh Bookstore: A car hit an SUV, which then went into the window at the university bookstore on Fifth. Three people were injured in the crash.
Dolphin Bookshop in Port Washington, N.Y., Turns 70: The bookstore, which opened in 1946, has gone through four owners, three locations, and several expansions. Current owner Judith Mitzner held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the store’s first seven decades. Originally opened near the train station, in its current iteration the 6,000 sq. ft. Dolphin Bookshop on Main Street sells books, gifts, and toys and includes a coffee shop.
