Latino Bookstore Opens in Houston: The city’s newest bookstore, the nonprofit Nuestra Palabra Arts & Books, is located inside the Latino cultural arts center, Talento Bilingüe de Houston. The three founders include Tony Diaz, who launched an organization to promote Latino literature and Literacy two decades ago, Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having their Say; Richard Reyes, the founder of TBH; and TBH executive director Javier Perez. Diaz told the Houston Chronicle that they have no intention of competing with Amazon. They want the bookstore and art gallery to be a cultural center for Latinos.
Canadian Bookstore Tries Satellite at the Laundromat: Peter Garden, owner of Turning the Tide bookstore in Saskatoon’s Broadway shopping district, is testing the waters in Regina by opening a second store inside Come Clean Laundromat there. The satellite location is a test before opening a permanent location.
