Healthy, Happy Sales
The #1 book in the country is Food, Health, and Happiness, a cookbook by Oprah Winfrey, with 41K print copies sold. Although Winfrey has cowritten several books, this is only the second book that credits the queen of all media as the main author. The first was 2014’s What I Know for Sure, a self-help title that sold 9,473 print copies its first week. It took a month for that title to sell what the new book sold its first week out.
Comics Relief
In June 2016, when comic book writer Marc Andreyko woke up to the news of the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., he felt moved to action. He put up a call on Facebook asking whether friends would be interested in contributing to a tribute project. The
result is Love Is Love, which debuts at #22 on our trade paper list. Its 144 pages are made up mostly of one-page comics, with a list of collaborators numbering in the hundreds; proceeds will go to support the survivors and the families of victims, via Equality Florida.
Movie Watch
Excitement is mounting for the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades Darker by E.L. James, which opens February 10. On January 2, Universal released an extended trailer, which, according to Variety and media measurement firm ComScore, generated 107,000 new social media conversations within the week. The movie tie-in edition debuted the day after the trailer, and lands at #14 on our trade paperback list.
Full Steam Ahead
The Instant Pot electric pressure cooker, the latest must-have kitchen appliance, has spawned another bestseller: Paleo Cooking with Your Instant Pot by Jennifer Robin, which debuts at #9 on our trade paperback list. One notch below, The Instant Pot Electric Pressure Cooker Cookbook by Laurel Randolph is in its ninth week on our list, with 130K print copies sold to date.
