Letter to a Young Feminist
(See all of this week's bestselling books.)
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions, debuts at #13 on our hardcover nonfiction list. It’s Adichie’s best first week to date, in what’s also been a great year for sales of her earlier books. We’ll be on the lookout for another boost in a couple of weeks: on March 16, Americanah (2013) was selected for the inaugural One Book, One New York citywide read.
Seeking Refuge
In Exit West, debuting at #5 in hardcover fiction, Mohsin Hamid’s takes a somewhat magical-realist look at the refugee crisis. He’s known for tackling big, timely issues in his novels: Pakistan’s nuclear tests (Moth Smoke, 2000), post-9/11 Islamophobia, (The Reluctant Fundamentalist, 2007), and the economic ascendancy of Asia (How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia, 2013).
