On the Up and Up
Since R.J. Palacio’s middle grade novel Wonder pubbed in 2012, it has sold nearly two million copies in hardcover. The release of the first trailer for the movie adaptation, which opens November 17, spiked sales a few weeks ago; a recent promotion with several online retailers boosted its showing on this week’s list—it’s the #2 book in the country.

Movie Watch
With The Beguiled, based on Thomas Cullinan’s 1966 Southern-gothic novel (originally titled A Painted Devil), Sofia Coppola became the second woman to win the best director award at Cannes. A movie-tie-in edition of the book, which had been out of print, pubbed June 13 but didn’t make our list its first week on sale. A week later, it debuts on our Trade Paperback list at #22.
Movers & Shakers
Two books returning to our list after a significant absence may have found favor among those prepping for beach season.
The Lose Your Belly Diet by Travis Stork, last seen five weeks ago, returns to Hardcover Nonfiction at #18, with print unit sales up 281% compared with the week before.
Meredith Laurence’s Air Fry Everything!, with a 329% bump in print unit sales, is back on our Trade Paperback list at #7. It was last on our list in March.

The Force
Don Winslow
#7 Hardcover Fiction
Our starred review compared Winslow’s latest, which focuses on a “supremely skilled and corrupt police officer,” to the works of Don DeLillo, Richard Price, and George Pelecanos.
Kiss Carlo
Adriana Trigiani
#9 Hardcover Fiction
Trigiani’s family epic centers on shenanigans at a rundown theater company that exclusively performs the works of Shakespeare, a risky proposition in 1949 South Philly.
