The lack of a major new bestseller did not prevent unit sales of print books from rising 4.2% last week over the week ended March 12, 2022, at outlets the report to Circana BookScan. The only category not to post an increase was young adult fiction, which had a decline of only 0.1%.
Adult fiction had the biggest increase in the week, with sales up 9.8%. Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher stayed in the top spot, selling more than 38,000 copies. In all, Hoover titles had six of the top 10 spots on the adult fiction list, selling a total of about 180,000 copies. Worthy Opponents by Danielle Steel cracked the adult fiction top 10, landing in ninth place with over 19,000 copies sold.
The adult nonfiction category posted a rare week with a gain as sales increased 0.9%. The Courage to Be Free by Ron DeSantis remained #1 in the category with sales of more than 24,000 copies. The bestselling new book was The Greatness Mindset by Lewis Howes, which sold over 15,000 copies—good enough for fourth place on the list.
Juvenile fiction sales increased 4.6% over 2022. Dr. Seuss titles, led by Green Eggs and Ham—which sold over 28,000 copies—again headed up the sales gain. A new release, Curse of the Shadow Dragon by Tracey West, was #9 on the category list, selling more than 14,000 copies.
The juvenile nonfiction segment had one of its better recent weeks, with sales up 1.9%. Hogwarts Legacy by Paul Davies was the category’s top title, selling more than 17,000 copies.
The bestselling new book in the YA fiction category was Teen Titans: Robin by Kami Garcia, which sold over 8,000 copies.
