We may only be three months into 2023, but the publishing industry has already had a million-copy seller. Since its release in early January, Spare by Prince Harry has sold just over 1.1 million print units at outlets that report to Circana BookScan. The memoir got off to a roaring start when it sold about 633,000 copies in its first week.
Another title that had a fast start this year was Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea (Dog Man #11) by Dav Pilkey, which sold more than 225,000 copies in its first week, landing it in 10th place on the overall bestseller list for the quarter despite being out for just a week.
Three other books released in 2023 managed to crack the top-25 list for the quarter. Two of those titles were written by Colleen Hoover: Heart Bones, released January 31, sold nearly 265,000 copies, while Never Never, written with Tarryn Fisher and published February 28, sold just under 180,000 copies. The other new non-Hoover title that landed high up on the first-quarter bestseller list was Jay Shetty’s 8 Rules of Love, which sold more than 158,000 copies.
