The latest stop in award-winning cartoonist Michael DeForge's Ant Colony tour will be on Tuesday, February 11th at 7 p.m. at Atomic Books in Baltimore, Maryland. Ant Colony (Drawn & Quarterly) is a surreal and existential look at life through a psychedelic ant colony and its daily goings-on. In addition to the signing, DeForge will be presenting a slideshow about the book. Cartoonist Yumi Sakugawa will also be present promoting her new graphic novel, I Think I am in Love with You. 2/14: Prison Pit Book Five Release Party in Los Angeles, CA
Celebrate Valentine's Day by with the release of Prison Pit Book Five (Fantagraphics), the newest installment in cartoonist Johnny Ryan's ultraviolent comic on Friday, February 14th at 7 p.m. at The Secret Headquarters in Los Angeles, California. The blood-soaked series follows an intergalactic criminal who is trapped in the Prison Pit, an infamously inescapable prison world, and must survive by viciously executing all obstacles in his way. 2/16: L.A. Zine Fest in Culver City, CA
The annual L.A. Zine Fest kicks off on Sunday, February 16th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Helms Bakery District Parking Garage in Culver City, California. Now in its 3rd year, the L.A. Zine Fest is a yearly gathering of over 180 small presses and "zinesters" for a day to share their work and expertise. Programming includes drop-in workshops, readings throughout the day, indie arcade games, live music, a panel on zine publishing from Black Hill Press, cartoonist Ron Regé Jr. presenting The Cartoon Utopia, and a conversation between Love and Rockets co-creator Jamie Hernandez and comics scholar and author Charles Hatfield.
