3/26: Ben Katchor in London, U.K.
As part of the Comica Festival, Award-winning cartoonist Ben Katchor will be presenting his strips and discussing his work with singer-songwriter and frequent collaborator Peter Blegvad at on Wednesday, March 26th at 6:15 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Gallery at Foyles Flasghip Bookshop in London, United Kingdom. Katchor is the creator of the long-running strips Julius Knipl, The Cardboard Valise, and Metropolis, which was recently collected as Hand-Drying in America and Other Stories (Pantheon, 2013). 3/27: Future Shock #7 Release Party in Brooklyn, NY
Celebrate the release of Future Shock #7 (Future Shock Empirical) with a number of its contributors on Thursday, March 27th from 7-9 p.m. at Desert Island in Brooklyn, New York. The anthology features work from Anuj Shrestha, Alex Degen, Pete Toms, Lala Albert, Victor Kerlow, Josh Burggraf (all of whom will be attending), and others. This is event is free to the public. 3/28-3/30: Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, WA
Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC), the Pacific Northwest's biggest comic book convention is taking place from Friday, March 28th through Sunday, March 30th at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. The show has everything a comic book fan could want with special exhibits, screenings, live recording and shows, and loads of spotlights and panels including "Metaphysics in Comics," "Storytelling Through Color," "Mad Science, Webcomics and You," "Comics and Healthcare," "Ethics in Comics, and much more (a full list of the show's programming can be found here). Cartoonists Paul Hornschemeier, Charles Forsman, and Jesse Lonergan will be signing their books on Saturday, March 29th from 2-6 p.m. at Hub Comics in Somerville, Massachusetts. Hornschemeier is the creator of the Forlorn Funnies and Artists Author Thinkers Directors (Fantagraphics, 2013), Forsman's recent work includes Celebrated Summer and The End of the the Fucking World (Fantagraphics, 2013), and Lonergan;s work includes Joe & Azat (NBM, 2009) and the recently released All Star (NBM, 2014).
