Cartoonist and publisher Box Brown will be at Locust Moon Comics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday, May 23, as part of his Andre the Giant book tour. Andre the Giant: Life and Legend (First Second) is Box's biography of Andre Roussimoff, one of professional wrestling's most well-known and fascinating figures. Brown will be giving a live reading, as well as answering questions about the book, and signing books (for additional tour stops, click here). This event is free to the public. 5/24: Mark Millar and Duncan Fegredo in London, U.K.
Join writer Mark Millar and artist Duncan Fegredo for the launch of their new miniseries MPH (Image/Millarworld), on Saturday, May 24 at 1 p.m. at Forbidden Planet's London Megastore. MPH focuses on a group of teens who attain super speed through a new street drug and use it for thrills, laughs, and money. In addition to MPH, Millar and Fegredo will be signing the new book, The Art of Millarworld, celebrating ten years of Millarworld comics and featuring artwork from many of the imprint's artists including Fegredo, Frank Quitely, and John Romita, Jr. This event is free to the public. 5/24-5/25: Vancouver Comic Arts Festival in Vancouver, BC, Canada
The Vancouver Comic Arts Festival (VanCAF) is taking place on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. Inspired by TCAF and organized by the Vancouver Comic Arts Association, VanCAF brings together experienced and aspiring cartoonists as well as fans for a weekend all about comics. Programming includes panels such as "Drawing People Together: Comic Communities," "Pushing Print: Self-pUblishing Your Comics," "Comedy in Comics: How to be Hilarious," and "Beyond the Bubble: Writing for Comics," as well as readings, workshops and performances. Guests include Ed Brisson, Tony Cliff, Farel Dalrymple, Camila D'Errico, Brandon Graham, Pia Guerra, Simon Roy, and Ken Steacy. This event is free to the public. Learn the ways of comics from some of Britain's top creators at Graphic Brighton on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of Brighton's Sallis Benney Theatre in Brighton, East Sussex. Graphic Brighton is a one-day event that brings local comic creators and fan together to discuss the craft of comics. On hand will be creators including David Llyod, John Higgins, Chris Riddell, Tim Pilcher, and more to expound on topics such as self-publishing, comics as a career, and "What makes a good graphic novel?"
