Writers Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes will be discussing their work and answering questions on Wednesday, August 13 at 7pm as part of the Merrill Collection of Science Fiction at the lower level of the Lillian H. Smith Public Library in Toronto, Ontario. Lemire's recent work includes Trillium, Green Arrow, Justice League United, and The New 52: Future's End. 8/15–8/17: COMICA Festival Weekend in London, U.K.

The 11th annual COMICA, London International Comics Festival, is taking place on Friday, August 15 through Sunday, August 17 at the British Library in London, United Kingdom. First on Friday, Bryan Lee O'Malley will be discussing his work including his new graphic novel, Seconds (Ballantine). Then on Saturday in the Entrance Hall, COMICA Comiket, a free comics fair with exhibitors and publishers, as well as live comics demos and performances. Finally on Sunday in the Conference Centre, COMICA Conversations, with talks such as "The Great War in Comics," New Voices, New Directions," and "Sex, Censorship and Sensibility," with creators including Pat Mills, Alys Jones, Emmanuel Guibert, Matila Tristram, and Ian Williams. Comics invade Connecticut at the Connecticut ComiCONN from Friday, August 17 through Sunday, August 17 at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Programming includes panels such as "The Silver Age of Comic Book Art Returns," "Bill Finger: The Man Who Made Batman, Batman," and "Hip-Hop & Comics: Cultures Combining," creator spotlights, music and comedy performances, cosplay and trivia contests, gaming, and more. 8/17: Ed Piskor in Brooklyn, NY

Creator Ed Piskor will be celebrating the release of The Hip Hop Family Tree Volume 2 (Fantagraphics) on Sunday, August 17 at 7pm at Bergen Street Comics in Brooklyn, New York. The second volume in Picksor's illustrated history of hip hop focuses on the early 80s, showing the beginnings of acts like Public Enemy and KRS One. Piskor will also be discussing comics and hip hop with podcast host and former music industry executive Reggie Osse AKA Combat Jack. Also joining Piskor will be Hip Hop Family Tree contributor Tom Scioli, whose recent work includes The Transformers vs. G.I. Joe (IDW) and Godland (Image). The event is free.
