9/3: Shoplifter Launch Party in Toronto, ON

Join Michael Cho as he celebrates the release of his debut graphic novel, Shoplifter (Pantheon), on Wednesday, September 3 at 7pm at The Central in Toronto, Ontario, presented by The Beguiling and Random House Canada. Shoplifter follows Corinna Park, a copywriter at an ad agency who struggles with her dream of becoming a novelist. This event is free. 9/3: Irwin: A New York Story Screening in New York, NY

A screening of the documentary Irwin: A New York Story will take place on Wednesday, 6:30–8:30pm at the Society of Illustrators in New York City, New York. Directed by Dan Makara, the documentary tells the story of 96-year-old cartoonist Irwin Hasen whose work stretches back to the 1940s and includes Dondi, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Green Hornet, Justice Society, and All-Star Comics. A discussion of Irwin's work with Al Jaffee, Karen Green, and Arnold Roth, led by Ed Streckley, and a reception will follow. 9/4: Gary Panter Exhibition Opening Reception in New York, NY

The opening reception for "Dream Town," an exhibition of seventeen paintings by artist and illustrator Gary Panter, is taking place on Thursday, September 4 from 6–8pm at Fredericks & Freiser in New York City, New York. Panter's works are mash-ups of abstract expressionism and pop culture motifs, created with bright colors and simplified, flat forms. The exhibition runs from August 26 through September 27. 9/5–9/7: Cincy Comicon in Covington, KY

Cincy Comicon, "Cincinnati's world-class comic book and comic art exposition," is taking place from September 5–7 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky. CCC has everything fan's would expect out of a convention, but with a specific focus on the creators and fans. The show features exhibitors, an artist alley, panels and workshops such as "Batman: 75 is the New 52," "U-Create Comics," and "Comics; People Are Dying to Get In," creator spotlights, cosplay competitions, art auctions, and more. Comics guests include Kelley Jones, Tony Millionaire, Katie Cook, Matt Fraction, Rob Guillory, Jason Latour, Tony Moore, Chris Sprouse, Andrew Robinson, Chris Samnee, Ethan Van Sciver, Chip Zdarsky, and Skottie Young. 9/5–9/7: Helsinki Comics Festival in Helsinki, Finland

The 29th annual Helsinki Comics Festival, Northern Europe's largest comics convention, is taking place from September 5–7 at Lasipalatsi Square in Helsinki, Finland. This year's theme is LBGT comics and the featured country is Germany. Programming includes creator interviews, panels such as "The New Wave of German Comics," and "100 Years Later: World War I in Comics," performances, exhibitions, and more. 9/5–9/7: Baltimore Comic-Con in Baltimore, MD

One of the country's most popular conventions, Baltimore Comic-Con, is taking place from September 5–7 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Now in its 14th year, BCC features many of the industry's top talents, as well as the presenting of the 27th annual Harvey Awards.
