The BD-Fil Festival of Comics is taking place from September 11 through 14 at the Place de la Cathédrale in Lausanne, Switzerland. Celebrating its tenth year, the festival brings together top talents from Europe and beyond, with panels, workshops, discussions, screenings, performances, exhibitions, and more. Guests include Lewis Trondheim, Zep, Christophe Blain, Blutch, Guy Delisle, and Frederik Peeters. Daily tickets are CHF 15 ($16), and multi-day subscriptions are CHF 25–40 ($27-43). 9/12: MariNaomi, Sakugawa, Kochalka, and Brown Signing in College Park, MD
Cartoonists MariNaomi, Yumi Sakugawa, James Kochalka, and Box Brown will be reading from and signing copies of their newest works on Friday, September 12 from 7–10pm at Big Planet Comics in College Park, Maryland. MariNaomi's new graphic novel is Dragon's Breath and Other True Stories, Yumi Sakugawa's is Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One with the Universe, James Kochalka's is FUNGUS: The Unbearable Rot of Being, and Box Brown's new anthology is Number 2. 9/12: SPXplosion 2014 Party in Baltimore, MD
In anticipation of SPX, Atomic Books in Baltimore, Maryland is hosting an SPXplosion Party on Friday, September 12 from 5–10pm. In attendance will be Charles Burns (signing from 5–6pm), as well as readings from Josh Baker, Emily Flake, Simon Hanselmann, Ed Piskor, Noah Van Sciver, and Tom Neely. This event is free. Montreal Comiccon is taking place from September 12–14 at the Palais des congrès in Montreal, Quebec. The convention celebrates comics, science fiction, gaming, horror, pop culture and more with programming such as celebrity Q&As and autographs, panels and workshops, screenings, cosplay, and more. The 2014 Small Press Expo is taking place on September 13 and 14 at the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel & Conference Center in North Bethesda, Maryland.
