E-book retailer Kobo has reached an agreement with Marvel Comics to sell digital editions of its collected graphic novels.

The deal will add more than 250 Marvel graphic novels to the Kobo digital comics inventory. Marvel has an exclusive deal to sell digital versions of its periodical comics books on Comixology, the dominant digital comics marketplace that was acquired by Amazon earlier this year. Marvel also offers online access to thousands of back issues of its comics via Marvel Unlimited, a online subscription digital comics service.

The deal comes in the wake of the enormous success of blockbuster films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Iron Man and the Avengers. Marvel is slated to release about two films a year right through 2018.

David Gabriel, senior v-p sales and marketing at Marvel Entertainment, said “Marvel is excited about our partnership with Kobo and happy to have the opportunity to provide fans, new and existing, another great way to experience our legendary content.”
