We've gathered a list of cookbook authors who will be speaking, signing, and even cooking at this year's BookExpo America and its consumer extension, BookCon, being held from May 27 to May 31 at the Javits Center in New York City.
Author Appearances and Signings
Storey Publishing is bringing Deanna F. Cook, author of Cooking Class: 57 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Make (and Eat!), to the Expo this year. The book features step-by-step photography of kids making each recipe, with extras like stickers, place cards, and games. Cook will be at BEA on Thursday, May 28 at noon for an autograph signing (Table 4, Autographing Area), serving a sweet treat, and 2 p.m. at Storey's booth (#1039).
Cook will also be appearing at BookCon on Sunday, May 31 at 11 a.m. (Workman Publishing Booth #2975), for another signing, also complete with treats.
Also on May 27, Emeril Lagasse will be signing recipe cards with information about his forthcoming book, Essential Emeril: Favorite Recipes and Hard-Won Wisdom from My Life in the Kitchen (Booths #2050/2051).
HarperCollins author Carol Alt will be autographing her new book, A Healthy You, on Wednesday, May 27 at 3 p.m. Former supermodel Alt, who is also a raw food advocate, offers raw recipes and nutrition advice in her book.
Book Giveaways
Chronicle will be giving away two ARCs at Javits this year. The first, Drinking the Devil’s Acre by Duggan McDonnell, takes readers on a “history-packed” tour of San Francisco via its cocktails. Twenty-five drink recipes for classic cocktails, like Pisco Punch and the Mai Tai, are joined by 45 additional recipes that show the evolution of the original drinks. The second early copy up for grabs is Dana Gunders’s Waste-Free Kitchen Handbook. In it, Gunders, a scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council, has crafted, says Chronicle, the “ultimate tool for reducing food waste."
On Thursday, May 28, Artisan will be giving away 100 color galleys (first come, first serve) at its booth (#1039) for its lead fall title, Crossroads: Extraordinary Recipes from the Restaurant That Is Reinventing Vegan Cuisine. Written by Tal Ronnen, author of the bestselling The Conscious Cook, the book offers plant-based recipes from his popular Los Angeles eatery, Crossroads.
Clarkson Potter is giving away galleys of Bobby Flay's upcoming book, Brunch at Bobby’s, out this September. The book features 140 recipes, including those for Sangria Sunrise, Carrot Cake Pancakes with Maple-Cream Cheese Drizzle, Sautéed Bitter Green Omelets, and Wild Mushroom-Yukon Gold Hash.
Panels
On Thursday, May 28 at 10 a.m. on the Uptown Stage, four independent publishers will discuss their top cookbook titles during the "BEA Selects: Cookbooks" panel. Attendees will receive a coupon to redeem at the publishers’ booths for a free galley or book. The panel will be moderated by Publishers Weekly senior editor Mark Rotella.
