In 2012, Hostess Brands, maker of, among other confections, the iconic Twinkie, declared it would be closing for good. But, much to the relief of nostalgic eaters across the country, the brand was rescued, making an unprecedented comeback. Now, as part of the effort to reboot its signature treat, first developed in 1930, Hostess has unveiled an updated and expanded version of The Twinkies Cookbook, Twinkies 85th Anniversary Edition (Ten Speed), which hit shelves July 14.
Last month, Hostess asked Twinkie fans from across the country to submit Twinkie recipes for possible inclusion in the cookbook, a nod to the groundswell of support for Hostess that emerged once word broke that the company would be halting production.
“Hostess is a brand rooted in innovation – and nowhere is that spirit more embodied than in the Twinkie, the crème filled, sponge cake sensation that has set the gold standard for snack cakes for 85 years,” said Ellen Copaken, senior director of marketing at Hostess Brands. “We thank the legions of fans who made their voices heard to pave the way for the return of the iconic Hostess brand and especially those who channeled their creativity and culinary wizardry to make this cookbook possible.”
The new book, which expands on the original edition published in 2006, features recipes both sweet and savory, from Twinkling Turkey, to Deep-Fried Bacon-Wrapped Chocolate-Covered Twinkies, and Chicken & Winkies. Here, a peek at a few Twinkie creations.
