Apple sold 4.19 million iPads in the quarter ended September 30, the company said yesterday, bringing the total sold to just under 7.5 million since the device was released in April. During the conference call discussing results, Apple CEO Steve Jobs criticized what he called the forthcoming avalanche of new tablet devices, saying the 7 inch screens will make for a poor customer experience. The iPad's screen is 10 inches.
The nearly 7.5 million iPads sold to date is almost certainly higher than the number of Kindles sold by Amazon; Amazon will release its third quarter results Thursday, but it does not reveal the number of Kindles sold.
