Educational Development Corp. reported a strong third quarter with sales up 8%, to $8.5 million, in the quarter ended November 30 compared to the third period of fiscal 2013. Net earnings were up to $547,800 from $525,700.
Sales in the quarter were up in both of EDC’s divisions. Sales in the publishing group rose slightly due to continued gains from the company’s retail customers, while sales in the home business division increased 8%. The unit sells books through home reps and a recent leadership training session had a 50% increase in attendance, EDC reported.
For the nine month period, sales were up 1.4%, to $20.2 million, but earnings were down to $670,800 from $1.0 million.
EDC also announced the appointments of Heather Cobb to v-p of Usborne Books and More, Jeanie Crone to v-p of EDC Publishing, and Kira Lynn to publisher of Kane Miller.
