Lagardère Publishing reported profits of 223 million euros in 2013, flat with 2012. Earlier this year, the company reported that revenue in 2013 fell to 2.07 billion euros from 2.08 billion euros in 2012. Lagardère Publishing’s American subsidiary, Hachette Book Group, had “significantly higher” EBIT the company said, observing that earnings at HBG benefitted from several major bestsellers and “the positive effects of growth momentum in digital books.” Total sales at HBG rose 6% with e-book sales up 33% in the year. HBG CEO Michael Pietsch said earnings rose by more than the 6% sales gain.
