Revenue at Educational Development Corp. rose 20%, to $7.2 million, in the first quarter ended May 31, 2014 compared to the first period of fiscal 2014. Earnings in the period jumped to $239,700 from $66,600 in last year's first quarter.
EDC president Randall White said the company is still benefiting from the decision two years ago to stop selling its titles through Amazon.
Since that move, the company has added thousands of more home sales reps which led to a better than 20% increase in sales in its home business division in the quarter and that trend continued in June with sales up 23%. The company's publishing division had a 17% sales gain in the quarter.
