The nonprofit, indie Feminist Press will be publishing the first e-book about the Russian punk band, Pussy Riot. Three members of the group, who have become an international symbol of protest and the fight for free speech, were charged with hooliganism after giving an antigovernment performance in Moscow in February. Feminist Press's e-book, Pussy Riot! A Punk Prayer for Freedom, is slated to be available at various e-tailers in two weeks, and collects material from the trial, as well as tributes from figures like Yoko Ono and Eileen Myles.
Elizabeth Koke, head of publicity and trade marketing at Feminist Press, said the house worked directly with the members of the band to put the project together. Proceeds from the e-book, which is 90 pages and has a list price of $2.99, will go to support the band's legal team.
