Another imprint of bankrupt D&M Publishers has found a new home with New Society Publishers being re-acquired by its previous owners and D&M creditors Chris and Judith Plant and Carol Newell of Renewal Partnersreall. Judith Plant will once again take on the role of New Society publisher and all distribution channels will remain unchanged.
The company was acquired by D&M in 2008 and has continued to specialize in publishing books related to a sustainable planet with a focus on climate change. The “new” New Society will continue to acquire books with an activist focus. Plant commended the New Society staff for sticking with the company during the uncertainty of the last few months. “Courage and resiliency are at the core of New Society Publishers’ corporate culture, and this has never been more evident than in the past months,” says Plant. She added that as the company moves forward, New Society will be “proactive” in embracing technology to work for its authors “in getting their critical messages out to the reading public, in whichever form that public might use.”
The sale of New Society is the third transaction done by D&M in the last 10 days and follows the sale of its flagship D&M imprint plus Greystone Books.
