The Hachette Book Group has completed its acquisition of Black Dog & Leventhal. HBG reached an agreement in late November to acquire BD&L as part of an effort to add more nonfiction titles to its list. BD&L has a backlist of about 250 titles.
As previously announced, BD&L will become an imprint of HBG’s Hachette Books division, led by publisher Mauro DiPreta. Until the end of June, Workman will continue to distribute BD&L titles, with distribution switching to HBG in the second half of the year.
BD&L founder JP Leventhal will continue as publisher with Maureen Winter serving as associate publisher and Becky Koh editorial director. They will move to HBG’s offices in mid-April, along with several additional colleagues
