Rowman & Littlefield has acquired Stackpole Books, the 85 year-old publisher of military and nature books. Stackpole, with offices in Harrisburg, Penn. and New York City, publishes about 90 books annually and has a backlist of approximately 1,000 titles.
Judith Schnell, Stackpole publisher, will remain in that position and Stackpole will become an imprint of R&L’s Globe Pequot division. Among the company’s bestselling titles is Army Officer’s Guide, which is now in its 52nd edition.
Jim Childs, publisher of Globe Pequot, said, the addition of Stackpole gives Globe an extremely strong market position in the outdoor, fly fishing and military history categories.
Customer orders will continue to be processed in the Stackpole warehouse in Mechanicsburg until the end of April when all order processing and order fulfillment will be moved to R&L’s affiliated company, National Book Network.
