Miami-based Mango Publishing has acquired Red Wheel/Weiser imprint Conari Press. The deal, which involved closee to 300 titles, closed on October 1.
Conari, founded in 1987, publishes in the areas of personal growth, spirituality, parenting and women's issues. Mango associate publisher Brenda Knight previously held the same position at Conari, and will now oversee the imprint at Mango. "I am excited to get to work with these wonderful writers and thinkers again,” Knight said. Plans call for Conari to do about 10 books annually.
Red Wheel/Weiser president Michael Kerber said the sale grew out of a shift in direction at the publisher. "With significant growth of our Weiser Books imprint coupled with the recent acquisition of Career Press and New Page Books, our publishing program has evolved in other areas," he said. "It was important to us to find a new home for Conari where its books and authors will continue to flourish."
Under the deal, Red Wheel/Weiser has retained rights to a handful of book published by Conari, including The Book of Awakening.
Mango Publishing, represented in the deal by Susan Reich and David Lamb at Book Advisors, is distributed by Ingram.Based in Miami, Mango made the top of the list of PW's fast-growing independent publishers of 2018.
