James Michael Farr, founder of JIST Publishing and author of more than 20 career books, died on Sunday at age 64. Farr founded JIST in 1981, and over the next 20-plus years served as the primary author of the Best Jobs series and Top Careers series, as well as Same-Day Resume, and The Quick Resume & Cover Letter Book. His books have sold more than two million copies.
Susan Pines, associate publisher at JIST Publishing, said, “Mike Farr was the only career expert to have built a successful publishing company while writing numerous best-selling books on job search and career topics. He was a mentor to his employees, to workforce professionals and to the many readers who found good jobs by following his advice.”
Farr’s family is planning a memorial service in January. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Mike Farr’s memory to the Hamilton County Humane Society’s Samantha Fund.
