Penguin Random House U.K. announced the appointment of Rebecca Smart, currently CEO at Osprey Group, as the new managing director of Ebury Publishing. The appointment follows Fiona MacIntyre’s decision to retire after nearly 30 years with the company.
"We shall be very sorry to see Rebecca leave, but we wish her every success in her future leadership of Ebury," said Osprey chairman Robin Black, adding that a search will be put in place to recruit a successor to oversee the company's publishing businesses. Smart has been with Osprey for 15 years, rising to CEO in 2008.
Tom Weldon, CEO, Penguin Random House UK, called Smart "one of the publishing industry’s leading thinkers" whose skills will be "of enormous value not only to Ebury but to the whole of Penguin Random House.” Weldon praised outgoing MacIntyre as an "outstanding businesswoman, manager and leader."
A start date for Smart has yet to be announced.
